Diamonds are graded & certified based on the 4c’s. Each diamond at Damas is individually graded by expert gemologists to determine the final grade. A diamond is evaluated using the 4c’s - cut, clarity, colour, and carat which indicates how well a diamond has been cut down from its raw form into a jewel, how flawless and clear it is, and its size.

Certifying & Grading Diamonds
C for Cut: the cut of the stone is not the shape, shape refers to whether the stone is round or cushion or princess etc. while the Cut of the stone is a testament to the skilled artisan who plans, maps and hand cuts the facets on each individual diamond. A diamond’s cut is one of the most important factors of diamond quality as it controls its shine, fire, and brilliance as it commands how reflective of light the diamond is.

Princess-Cut Diamonds
Princess-cut diamonds are exceptionally brilliant because of the way they are cut. The color emitted from princess-cut diamonds is very unique. While the color of other diamonds is displayed mainly in the center, the princess-cut diamonds show distinct color in each of the corners, as well.

Emerald-Cut Diamonds
Emerald-cut diamonds have a unique optical appearance because of the rectangular facets step-cut into the diamond’s pavilion. This cut showcases the diamond’s original clarity beautifully because of its large rectangular table which also makes inclusions and color more apparent.
Radiant-Cut Diamonds
Radiant-cut diamonds feature uniquely trimmed corners that combine the lines of an emerald-cut with the brilliance of a round diamond. The sparkle of this diamond cut looks beautiful when combined with a variety of other diamond cuts.
Pear-Shaped Diamonds
Combining round and marquise cuts, the teardrop style of pear shaped diamonds is exceptional. Oval Diamonds

Asscher-Cut Diamonds
Asscher-cut diamonds are often mistaken for an emerald-cut due to their similar cut style. However, an asscher is square as opposed to rectangular.

C for Clarity: The main two clarity grading categories are inclusions and blemishes. Inclusions are natural imperfections that occur inside the diamond when it is being formed under immense heat and pressure while blemishes are imperfections that appear on the surface of the diamond and occur while polishing and cutting the diamond. The clarity of the diamond is determined based on the place and colour of the blemishes.
Diamond Grading Scales:
The diamond grading starts from the highest scale of F meaning it is flawless with no inclusion or blemishes or IF internally flawless which means the diamond has no inclusion but can have small blemishes, but these diamonds are extremely rare and expensive.
The 2nd highest category of diamond gradings are VVSI and VVS2 which means the diamond shows minute inclusions that cannot be seen without microscope so to the naked eye VVS cannot be differentiated from F or IF graded diamonds.
The third and most common category of diamonds is VS which means the diamond features minor inclusions although VVS diamonds have less inclusion that VS diamonds still these inclusions are very small and do not interfere with diamond clarity too much and they are invisible to the naked eye.
The 4th and 5th diamond grading are S (Noticeable inclusions) & I (Obvious Inclusions) Diamonds at this grade have larger inclusions. Some inclusions may be visible to the naked eye and may affect clarity. SI diamonds may appear cloudy or less sparkly than VS, VVS, IF, and F diamonds.
C for Color: diamonds’ colour is assessed and graded based on the absence of colour, the more colourless the diamond the more radiant it is.

The difference between Lab Grown Diamonds & Mined Diamonds
Diamonds are formed about 150 kilometers below the Earth's crust in a high-pressure region that has a temperature of over 1,000 degrees Celsius. the process begins with the presence of carbon atoms within sections of the earth’s mantle. The entire process takes between 1 billion and 3.3 billion years. The gems are brought to the surface of the Earth during a seismic event like a volcanic eruption or through commercial mines.
Lab grown diamonds are real diamonds, identical and exhibit the same physical, chemical, and optical characteristics as mined diamonds without the environmental toll of mining.
